At gridX, we recognize the importance of fostering a supportive and nurturing workplace, and prioritizing mental well-being alongside professional growth. Mental health is just as important, if not more so, as physical health because burnout, stress and depression, among others, can have lasting effects. A big part of our company culture is ensuring that employees feel supported and treated with kindness and respect rather than cogs in a wheel – and this starts with mental health.
To actively commit to this, we spent the first half of this year implementing numerous initiatives that make the well-being of our team a top priority. Read on to see what steps we took and what we learned from them.:
Surveys and feedback: Listening to our team
Understanding the needs and concerns of our team is the foundation of our mental health strategy. Earlier this year, we conducted a well-being survey to gauge the mental welfare of our employees. The survey provided valuable insights into the challenges faced by our team, highlighting areas where we can improve and areas where we are already succeeding.
Workshops: Building skills for well-being
Based on the survey results, we organized a workshop with our Management Team to equip our employees with the tools and knowledge needed to manage stress, build resilience and maintain a healthy work-life balance. These workshops covered a range of topics, including mindfulness, stress management techniques and effective communication skills.
Promoting Nilo: A digital support system
Last year, we introduced Nilo, a digital platform designed to support mental health and well-being. Nilo offers a range of resources, including access to mental health professionals, self-help tools and personalized wellness plans. Since starting our partnership with Nilo this year, we have integrated it into our daily operations, encouraging employees to make use of its many features.
One employee, who took part in the offerings, shared their thoughts: “Initially hesitant, my experience has been very constructive so far. The psychologist’s guidance has empowered me to navigate challenges more effectively and has positively impacted both my personal and professional life. I feel supported and motivated to continue my journey toward improved mental well-being…We all face mental health challenges. Just as we worry about our physical health and seek professional support, it’s equally important to address mental well-being too.”
Mental Health Matters week: Celebrating well-being
One of the highlights of our mental health initiatives this year was our participation in the Mental Health Matters week. This five-day event was dedicated to raising awareness and promoting mental well-being across the company.
During the week, we organized a variety of activities aimed at fostering a positive and supportive environment. One of the most popular initiatives was the Gratitude Wall, where employees could post notes of appreciation and encouragement for their colleagues.
We also hosted an external lecture on resilience, delivered by a renowned expert in the field. The lecture provided valuable insights into the importance of resilience both in one’s personal and professional life, offering practical tips on how to build and maintain it. Employees found the session both inspiring and informative, gaining a deeper understanding of how to navigate challenges with a resilient mindset.
Moving forward: Committing to mental health
As we reflect on the first half of this year, it is clear that our efforts to prioritize mental health have made a significant impact. The survey, workshops, Nilo and Mental Health Matters week have all contributed to creating a more supportive and resilient workplace. However, we recognize that this is an ongoing journey. We remain committed to continuously improving our mental health initiatives, listening to our employees and adapting our strategies to meet their evolving needs.
Mental health is not just a corporate responsibility; it is a fundamental aspect of our company culture. Together, we will continue to build a workplace where mental health matters, and where every individual has the opportunity to flourish.
