Aachen/Munich, 30 January 2024 – gridX, Europe’s leading smart energy company, continuously increases the benchmark: in 2023, the provider of future-proof smart energy management solutions integrated four new original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with their various devices into the portfolio of its IoT platform, XENON. With those integrations, gridX’s partners can rely on a total number of 47 OEMS so far to create their own customized and smart energy management solution. The speed of integrations is not slowing down: in 2024, gridX plans to integrate at least eight new OEMs and more than 16 new assets to expand the overall portfolio of integrated OEMs to well over 50. A special focus will be placed on heat pumps – supplementary to inverters, EV charging stations, and batteries – due to this device type’s undisputed importance for a successful energy transition and its constantly rising adoption rates. In general, gridX started 2024 with promising momentum and aims to expand on the positive developments made in 2023. The company has lately successfully entered European markets beyond Germany, securing over 50 percent of its new partnerships on international soil. According to Tobias Mitter, gridX's Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer, “smart energy management systems are increasingly crucial as they form the digital foundation of future energy systems.”
Manufacturer-independence: The cornerstone to success
The energy sector is renowned for being slow to digitize and progress. This is first and foremost apparent in the numerous and complex communication protocols, standards and ‘languages’ that prevent energy devices from working harmoniously together. Such cohesion and interoperability between assets that produce, store and consume energy is increasingly vital in the new decentralized energy era so that flexible demand better matches to intermittent supply of renewable power. This is where gridX makes its mark: its manufacturer-independent solution holistically monitors all energy flows across a site and dynamically adjusts electricity demand in real time according to renewable power generation, grid constraints, electricity prices or individual preferences. This maximizes self-consumption and lowers costs with minimum effort from users, for example: electric vehicles (EVs) or batteries can be charged when electricity prices are low, or when integrated with a local photovoltaic (PV) system, a heat pump can store surplus solar energy as thermal energy to be used to provide later when the sun is no longer shining.
gridX’s smart energy management system overcomes the hurdle of different manufacturers and protocols not working in an orchestrated manner by enabling players in the fields of e-mobility or home energy management to intelligently connect, monitor and control any energy asset. The XENON platform acts as a smart interpreter that translates the different languages, thereby enabling holistic and coordinated optimization of all energy flows. By constantly adding more OEMs to its list of gridX-ready devices, gridX ensures that its partners are constantly adapting to new requirements – such as advancements in dynamic tariffs or heat control – and stay at the forefront of innovation in a rapidly changing landscape.
